Charitable Food Distributors Hosting October Food Drive

GASTONIA, N.C. — Charitable Food Distributors, a workgroup of Gaston Cares and the Gaston County Food Policy Council, is hosting a county-wide food drive to help stock local food pantry shelves.

Donations will be accepted now through October 31, 2026 at Bargain Max at Eastridge Mall, 246 N. New Hope Road, Gastonia during their business hours (Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.).

Seven local food pantries are partnering with Bargain Max to collect donations and serve our neighbors in need. With recent increases in the cost of groceries, gas, and other necessities, many families are making tough choices about how to spend their money. Local pantries have seen more need in Gaston County. As more families seek assistance and food donations slow, pantries are struggling to stay stocked.

This food drive will help provide nutritious food to individuals and families throughout Gaston County by supporting local food pantries. This is the first of what is planned to be a quarterly event to meet current and future needs in our community.

Local businesses, churches, neighborhoods, and other organizations are encouraged to donate:

  • Low- or no-sugar canned fruits
  • Low-sodium (salt) canned vegetables and beans
  • Canned meat, tuna, and chicken
  • Peanut butter
  • Whole-grain cereal and oatmeal
  • Shelf-stable milk
  • Soups and healthy snacks
  • Tortillas or tostadas
  • Cooking oil
  • Canned chipotle peppers or jalapeños

Donations will be distributed to the participating food pantries. For more information about the Charitable Food Distributors Workgroup, please visit One Gaston 2040 or email Yolanda Cumming.
