Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Division of Senior Services is the primary agency in Bergen County that plans and coordinates services for county residents aged 60 and above, and their caregivers. The Division and its various committees advocate for those with the greatest economic and social needs.

Job Description:

This employment opportunity is to serve as a Community Service Worker for the Division of Senior Services. Under supervision, performs the field and office work to promote local community resource programs designed to meet the needs of residents; does other related work.

Job Responsibilities:

Field and process incoming calls to the Nutrition and Wellness Unit and provides assistance to residents within the scope of agency functions including but not limited to; Home Delivered Meal Program, Congregate Nutrition Program, program eligibility. Process requests for change, program suspensions, resumes and/or terminations.
Provides referrals to other agencies for additional services.
Review and process new Meals on Wheels client applications for eligibility and service.
Prepares reports of program activities.
Establishes and maintains essential records and files.
Support Meals on Wheels drivers during daily deliveries and initiate client welfare checks with local police departments as needed.
Monitor and respond to all messages left on program voice mail boxes.
Conduct client bi-annual reassessments both in-person and by phone to determine continued eligibility.
Generate and confirm daily meal orders for accuracy, resolve any issues and submit meal orders to contracted caterers as assigned.
Review and reconcile daily route management driver reports.
Monitor and manage home delivered meal wait list and prioritize as needed.
Cross train and support staff coverage for Congregate program as directed.
Promotes local community resource programs for residents at Nutrition and Wellness events and programs, including Wellness Fairs, the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, the Division of Senior Services Annual Senior Festival, community presentations, and outreach activities.
Complete all mandated trainings and certifications such as SAGE, annual Bergen County Discrimination/Anti-Harassment, Cybersecurity Awareness, and Food Handlers and Safety Certification.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the Nutrition and Wellness Unit.

Schedule: Per Diem (up to 29.5 hours/week) Monday – Friday.

Education Requirements:

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester-hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Four (4) years of professional experience in community relations work involving the promotion of local community resources or field work in a social service or public assistance program.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree required, sociology or related field preferred.

NOTE: “Professional experience” refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession’s concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.

Other Requirements:

Bilingual English – Spanish or English – Korean is preferred.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the Nutrition and Wellness Unit.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, and Excel programs.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
