Young Siblings Turn a Year of Saving Change Into a Pet Food Donation at the Volusia County Animal Shelter

Three local siblings are proving that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Yesterday, the children made a surprise visit to the Volusia County Animal Shelter to donate pet food they had purchased with money they collected throughout the year.

The siblings save any money they find throughout the year and use it to purchase pet food for a local animal shelter. They have made the donation an annual tradition for the past several years, turning loose change into meaningful support for shelter animals.

Before presenting their donation, the children spent time with Vitorio, one of the shelter's canine residents, in the exercise yard, where they played together and explored the agility equipment. The visit gave them an opportunity to see firsthand how community support helps provide not only food and medical care but also enrichment that keeps shelter animals happy and engaged while they wait for new homes.

Donations of pet food and other supplies help support the shelter's daily operations and the dogs and cats that receive care while waiting for permanent homes. Community support through donations and volunteerism plays an important role in helping Animal Services provide for animals in its care.

The Volusia County Animal Shelter welcomes donations throughout the year. Food, treats, toys, bedding, cleaning supplies, and other items help care for homeless animals until they find loving homes. Residents interested in supporting the shelter can learn more by contacting Animal Services at 386-248-1790 or animalcontrol@volusia.gov.
